Payment Problems

Failed renewals, subscriptions that don't show up, and being locked out unexpectedly

Most billing problems are one of a handful of things. Start with the symptom that matches.

"Payment issue, retrying"

A renewal payment failed: usually an expired card, insufficient funds, or a bank declining an unfamiliar charge.

You still have access while this shows. Nothing is locked yet; the payment is simply being retried.

If you subscribed on the web: open SettingsSubscriptionManage subscription and update your card in the billing portal. Stripe retries the payment over the following days and emails you about each attempt.

If you subscribed on iPhone: Apple retries the charge for up to 16 days and will prompt you to fix your payment method. Update it in Settings → your name → Payment & Shipping on your device. Apple emails you if the subscription is about to lapse.

If the retries run out without a successful payment, the subscription lapses and access is limited until you subscribe again. Your data is untouched either way.

I Subscribed, But Financio Still Says I'm Not

Payment confirmations usually land in a second or two, but they can take a little longer.

Refresh the Subscription page. If it still hasn't updated after a minute or two, sign out and back in. If you were charged and it still shows as unsubscribed after that, contact support with the date and amount. Don't pay again.

Pull to refresh or leave the Subscription screen and come back. If it still hasn't updated, tap Restore Purchases. That re-checks your Apple ID for a valid subscription and is the right fix after reinstalling the app or switching devices.

If you were charged and it still shows as unsubscribed, contact support with the date and amount. Don't buy it again.

"No subscription to restore was found on this Apple ID"

Restore Purchases only finds subscriptions bought with the Apple ID currently signed in on the device. This message usually means one of:

  • The subscription was bought on a different Apple ID, sign in with that one.
  • The household subscribes on the web, not through Apple, so there's nothing on your Apple ID to restore. Check SettingsSubscription; it'll say Managed on the web.
  • The subscription has already expired, in which case you need to subscribe rather than restore.

I'm Locked Out and I Didn't Expect to Be

Financio limits access when a household's trial or subscription has expired. You can still sign in, view and fix your subscription, and delete your account, everything else waits until the household is subscribed again.

Common surprises:

  • Your free trial ran out. See Your Free Trial.
  • You're in someone else's household and their subscription lapsed. Only the owner can fix it: ask them to subscribe, then use Check Again.
  • A renewal failed and the retries ran out. Update your card and resubscribe.

I Can't Export My Data

Data export is locked along with everything else once a trial or subscription has expired. If you need your data and can't subscribe to get it out, contact support and we'll help.

Export While You Can

The reliable way to avoid this is to export your data before your trial or subscription ends, rather than after.

I Was Charged Twice

A household bills through one provider at a time, and Financio blocks the second purchase path to prevent this. If an App Store purchase does go through while a web subscription is running, we automatically stop the web one renewing. You keep the time already paid for and won't be billed by both from then on.

If you genuinely see two live charges, contact support with both dates and amounts. For duplicate App Store charges, Apple handles refunds at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Still Stuck?

Contact support with your account email, which platform you subscribed on, and the date and amount of the payment. If it's an App Store purchase, the receipt Apple emailed you helps.
