Exporting Reports

Download any report as a CSV spreadsheet or save the chart as an image

Reports can be taken out of Financio in two formats: a CSV spreadsheet of the underlying figures, or an image of the chart. Use exports to build your own spreadsheets, share numbers with an accountant, or keep a record at the end of a financial year.

Downloading a Report

  1. Open the report you want to export.
  2. Apply any filters and set the period you want.
  3. Click the Download button (the downward arrow, towards the right of the report header).
  4. Choose Download Chart or Download CSV.

The file downloads straight to your device.

Which Reports Support Export

Download is available on the Net Worth, Expenses, and Income reports. The Cash Flow report doesn't currently offer an export on the web.

  1. Open the report you want to export.
  2. Apply any filters and set the period you want.
  3. Tap the share icon in the report header (the square with an upward arrow).
  4. On Net Worth and Cash Flow, choose Export CSV or Save Chart as Image. On Expenses and Income, the CSV is prepared straight away.

The file is produced by Financio's servers and then handed to your device's share sheet, so you can save it to Files, email it, or send it to another app.

Which Reports Support Export

On iPhone, every report can be exported: Net Worth, Cash Flow, Expenses, and Income.

Exports Match What You See

CSV exports are built from the same figures the report renders on screen, so the numbers in the file always match the numbers in the app. In particular, every filter you've applied is carried through to the export: accounts, categories, merchants, tags, and the amount filter.

If your export shows less data than you expected, check whether filters are still active on the report. The Filters button shows a dot when filters are applied.

Export Filtered Slices

Because filters carry through, exports are a quick way to produce a focused spreadsheet: filter the Expenses report to your "Business" tag, then export, and you have a tax-ready list of deductible spending.

What's in Each CSV

Net Worth

One row per account, with a column for each date in the selected period:

ColumnContents
AccountAccount name
TypeAccount type (e.g. Savings, Credit Card, Loan, Asset)
One column per dateThe account's balance on that date

A final Total Net Worth row sums every account for each date, so you can chart your net worth over time in a spreadsheet without recalculating anything.

Expenses and Income

One row per category, following the same hierarchy shown in the report table:

ColumnContents
CategoryCategory name, indented to show subcategories under their parent
AmountTotal for that category over the period
PercentageThat category's share of total expenses or income

A final Total Expenses (or Total Income) row closes the file.

Indentation Shows the Hierarchy

Subcategories are indented with spaces beneath their parent. Most spreadsheet applications preserve this, so the structure of your categories survives the export.

Exporting a Drill-Down

On the Expenses and Income reports, you can also export the transactions behind a single category:

  1. Click a category to drill into it.
  2. With the transaction list open, click Download and choose Download CSV.

Instead of category totals, you get the individual transactions for that category, with the file named after the category you drilled into. Drilling in and exporting respects the report's filters too, so the transaction list matches the totals it came from.

Exporting the individual transactions behind a single category is currently available on the web only. On iPhone, report exports cover the category totals; for a full transaction export, see Exporting Your Data.

Downloading the Chart

Download Chart saves the report's chart as an image. This is useful for pasting a visual into a document or email where a spreadsheet would be too much detail.

Save Chart as Image on the Net Worth and Cash Flow reports saves the chart as an image you can share or drop into a document. The Expenses and Income reports currently export CSV only.

Exporting Everything

Report exports cover a single report at a time. To export your complete transaction history rather than a report, see Exporting Your Data.
