When you find a filter configuration you use regularly, you can save it as a named report. This lets you quickly return to that exact view without manually setting up filters each time.
Why Save Reports?
Setting up filters takes time, especially when you're combining multiple filter types. Saved reports let you:
- Instant Access — Load complex filter combinations with one click
- Consistency — Ensure you're always viewing the same subset of data
- Time Savings — Skip repetitive filter setup for regular analysis
- Shareability — Reference saved reports by name in your own records
Saving a Report
- Set up your desired filters using the Filters button
- Apply the filters to see the results
- Click the Save button (bookmark icon) in the report header
- Review the filter summary shown in the dialog
- Enter a descriptive name for the report
- Click Save
Descriptive Names
Use clear, descriptive names that remind you what the report shows. For example:
- "Credit Card Spending Only"
- "Business Expenses - Tax Deductible"
- "Investment Income FY24"
What Gets Saved
When you save a report, Financio stores:
- Date Range — The selected time period (This Month, Last Quarter, etc.)
- Account Filters — Which accounts are included or excluded
- Category Filters — Selected expense or income categories
- Merchant Filters — Specific merchants to include
- Tag Filters — Which tags to filter by
- Amount Filters — Any amount restrictions (greater than, less than, between)
The filter summary in the save dialog shows exactly what will be saved, so you can confirm before saving.
Loading a Saved Report
- Click Saved Reports in the report header
- A dropdown shows all your saved reports for this report type
- Click on a saved report to load it instantly
- All filters and the date range are applied automatically
The report data updates immediately to reflect the saved configuration.
Managing Saved Reports
Viewing Saved Reports
The Saved Reports dropdown only appears when you have at least one saved report for the current report type. Each entry shows the report name you provided when saving.
Deleting a Saved Report
- Click Saved Reports to open the dropdown
- Hover over the report you want to delete
- Click the trash icon that appears on the right
- Confirm the deletion when prompted
Permanent Deletion
Deleted saved reports cannot be recovered. Make sure you no longer need the report before deleting.
Saved Reports by Type
Saved reports are specific to each report type. A report saved in the Expenses report won't appear in the Income or Cash Flow reports.
| Report Type | Saved Reports |
|---|---|
| Net Worth | Saved separately |
| Cash Flow | Saved separately |
| Expenses | Saved separately |
| Income | Saved separately |
This keeps your saved reports organised and relevant to the report you're viewing.
When Can You Save?
The Save button only appears when:
- You have at least one filter applied (filters are active)
- The current configuration doesn't already match an existing saved report
If you've loaded a saved report and haven't changed anything, the Save button won't appear since that exact configuration is already saved.
Common Use Cases
Tax Reporting
Save a report with business-related tags or categories selected. Load it each quarter or at tax time for consistent reporting.
Budget Categories
Save reports for specific spending categories you want to monitor regularly, like "Dining Out" or "Subscriptions".
Account Analysis
Save a report filtered to a single account to quickly check spending patterns on your credit card or income to your business account.
Period Comparisons
Save reports with the same filters but different date ranges (This Month, Last Month, This Financial Year) to compare the same view across time periods.
Tips for Effective Saved Reports
Be Specific
Create focused saved reports rather than trying to capture everything. "Coffee Shop Spending" is more useful than "Food Expenses".
Review Periodically
As your accounts, categories, or tags change, check that your saved reports still make sense. Delete outdated reports to keep the list manageable.
Use Consistent Naming
Develop a naming convention that works for you. Consider including the filter type or purpose in the name:
- "Account: Credit Card Only"
- "Category: Entertainment"
- "Tag: Business Deductible"
