Creating Accounts

Learn how to add bank accounts, credit cards, assets, and loans to track your finances

Accounts in Financio represent where your money lives. You can track bank accounts, credit cards, cash, investments, valuable assets, and loans all in one place.

Adding an Account

  1. Navigate to the Accounts page.

  2. Click the Add Account button.

  3. Choose the type of account you want to add.

  4. Fill in the account details and click Save.

Account Types

Financio supports six types of accounts:

TypeUse For
Bank AccountEveryday transaction accounts, savings accounts
Credit CardCredit cards with optional limit tracking
CashPhysical money you want to track digitally
InvestmentBrokerage accounts for stocks, ETFs, and other investments
AssetProperty, vehicles, jewellery, and other valuables
LoanHome loans, car loans, HECS, and other debts

Choose the Right Type

The account type affects how balances are displayed and calculated. Bank accounts and assets add to your net worth, while loans subtract from it.

Required Information

Every account needs:

  • Account Name: A nickname to identify the account (e.g., "ANZ Everyday", "Emergency Savings")
  • Opening Balance: The starting balance when you begin tracking
  • Opening Balance Date: When that balance was accurate

Optional Settings

You can also configure:

  • Bank: Select from a list of Australian banks (helps with organisation)
  • Currency: Track accounts in different currencies (AUD is the default)
  • Include in Net Worth: Toggle whether this account affects your net worth calculation
  • Show Balance: Hide sensitive balances from the accounts list

After Creating

Once you create an account, you can:

  • Add transactions manually or import them from bank statements
  • View the running balance over time
  • Edit the account details at any time
  • Delete the account (this also removes all transactions)

Importing Transactions

After creating a bank account or credit card, you can import transactions directly from CSV files exported from your bank.
