Financio allows you to share your financial data with family members, partners, or anyone you trust. Whether you want your spouse to have full access to manage the household finances, or you'd like a family member to view your accounts without making changes, household sharing makes it possible.
How Sharing Works
When you share your household, all your financial data is shared equally with members you invite:
- Accounts - All bank accounts, credit cards, investments, assets, and loans
- Transactions - Complete transaction history across all accounts
- Categories - Your customised category structure
- Tags - All custom tags you've created
- Rules - Automation rules for categorising transactions
- Reports - Access to all reports and insights
- Goals - Financial goals and progress tracking
Complete Transparency
When you invite someone to your household, they can see everything. There's no way to hide specific accounts or transactions from household members.
Permission Levels
You control what each member can do through three permission levels:
| Role | View All Data | Make Changes | Manage Members |
|---|---|---|---|
| Owner | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Full Access | Yes | Yes | No |
| Read Only | Yes | No | No |
- Owner - The original account creator. Can do everything, including inviting and removing members.
- Full Access - Can view all data and make changes (add transactions, edit categories, etc.), but cannot manage other members.
- Read Only - Can view all data but cannot make any changes. Perfect for family members who want visibility without the ability to edit.
Learn more about each role in Understanding Roles and Permissions.
Common Use Cases
Couples Managing Household Finances
Share your household with your partner so you both have visibility into spending and can manage accounts together. Both partners can have Full Access to add transactions, categorise expenses, and track budgets.
Parents Helping Adult Children
A parent might want Read Only access to help guide their adult child's financial journey without making changes on their behalf.
Family Financial Overview
Share with family members who help manage finances, like an adult child helping elderly parents track their accounts.
Financial Advisors or Accountants
Grant Read Only access to a professional who needs to review your finances without making modifications.
What Happens to Your Data
- Your data stays exactly where it is - sharing doesn't move or copy anything
- Members access your data through their own Financio login
- If a member is removed, they immediately lose access
- Your data is never affected by removing a member
Getting Started
Ready to share your household?
- Invite a member to send them an invitation email
- They'll receive an email with a link to accept
- Once accepted, they can access your household immediately
Multiple Households
Members can belong to multiple households. For example, you might:
- Own your personal Financio account
- Be a Full Access member of a shared household with your spouse
- Have Read Only access to help a parent manage their finances
Use the household switcher to move between different households. See Switching Between Households for details.
