The Income report shows where your money comes from. Understanding your income sources helps you track career progress, identify passive income opportunities, and plan for financial stability.
Accessing the Report
- Go to Reports from the main navigation.
- Select Income from the report options.
The Donut Chart
The main visualisation is a donut chart showing your income by category:
- Each slice represents an income category
- Larger slices indicate higher earnings
- The centre shows your total income for the period
- Hover over any slice to see the category name and amount
Percentage vs Amount
Toggle between two display modes:
Amount Mode — Shows the dollar value for each income source. The chart is sized based on actual earnings.
Percentage Mode — Shows each source as a percentage of total income. Useful for understanding income diversification.
Period Selection
Use the date controls to select the time period for your report:
- Month/Year picker — Select a specific month
- Navigation arrows — Move forward or backward by month
- Custom range — Set a specific date range for analysis
Income Breakdown
Below the chart, a detailed breakdown shows parent categories with their subcategories listed beneath. Each row displays the category name and the total amount received.
Use the collapse/expand button (chevron icon) next to the "Transactions" heading to toggle subcategory rows. When collapsed, only parent category totals are shown for a cleaner summary view. Expand to see the full breakdown by subcategory.
Click on any category row to drill down further.

Drilling Into Categories
Parent Categories
Clicking a parent category (in the chart or the table) opens a subcategory breakdown panel showing:
- Each subcategory with its total amount
- The percentage each subcategory contributes to the parent total
- A summary row with the parent category's total income
From here, click any subcategory to see its individual transactions. Use the back arrow to return to the subcategory breakdown, or continue back to the main table.
Subcategories and Individual Categories
Clicking a subcategory or a category without children shows:
Transaction List
All income transactions in that category for the selected period, showing:
- Date
- Payer/Source
- Description
- Amount
Source Breakdown
A secondary breakdown showing income by source (payer) within that category. This helps you identify:
- Your different income sources
- How much each client or employer contributes
- Diversification across income streams
Income Diversification
Financial advisors recommend having multiple income sources. The source breakdown helps you track how diversified your income is. Relying on a single source is risky—building additional streams provides security.
Filtering Options
Click the Filters button to customise your report. You can filter by:
- Accounts — View income to specific accounts or separate business from personal
- Categories — Focus on salary only, or just passive income sources
- Merchants/Sources — Analyse income from specific employers or clients
- Tags — See "Freelance" income or "Investment" returns
- Amounts — Find small recurring income or focus on major deposits
For detailed information on how filters work, including saving filter configurations, see Filtering Reports.
Tracking Salary vs Passive Income
Use category filters to compare:
- Active Income — Filter to show only Salary/Wages and Business Income
- Passive Income — Filter to show only Interest, Dividends, Capital Gains, and Rental Income
Tracking the ratio between active and passive income helps you work toward financial independence, where passive income covers your living expenses.

This view is ideal for detailed analysis or when you need precise figures for financial planning.
Ensuring Complete Income Data
For accurate income tracking:
- Categorise all income transactions — Uncategorised income won't appear correctly in reports
- Use consistent categories — Apply the same category to the same income types
- Review regularly — Check that imported transactions are correctly identified as income (not expense)
Income vs Transfers
Make sure internal transfers between accounts aren't incorrectly categorised as income. If money moving between your own accounts appears in the income report, edit those transactions and set their type to "Transfer".
