A budget resets on a cycle: every month, quarter, year, or a custom cycle of your own. The period Financio opens on is the one containing today, and the arrows either side of the period label move you through them.
What each period option does
- Monthly, resets on the 1st of every month. August 2026 runs 1–31 August.
- Quarterly, resets at the start of each calendar quarter. Q3 2026 runs 1 July – 30 September.
- Yearly, resets on 1 January.
- Custom: your own cycle: every 2 months, every fortnight, every 6 weeks. You choose how often it repeats and the date it repeats from.
The start date
For monthly, quarterly and yearly budgets the start date is decided for you, periods line up with the calendar.
For a custom cycle it's yours to set, and it does more than it looks: every period is counted forward from it. A fortnightly budget starting Monday 3 August runs 3–16 August, 17–30 August, and so on.
Start at the beginning of a period, not today
A custom cycle anchored to today starts a period that has barely begun, so every Actual reads $0: not because the numbers are broken, but because nothing has happened in that period yet. Pick the date your cycle should genuinely begin: the 1st of this month, or your last payday.
Moving between periods
Use the arrows either side of the period label.
- Past periods show what you actually spent then, against today's budgeted amounts.
- Future periods show $0 actuals, nothing has happened yet.
- Your budgeted amounts don't change from period to period. Paging around changes the actuals only.
The date range of the period you're looking at is shown under the budget name, so you can always see exactly what's being counted.
While you're in the current period, the summary card shows how far through it you are: "Day 16 of 31", with a matching marker on the progress bar, so you can tell at a glance whether you're ahead or behind pace.
Changing the period later
You can change the cycle on an existing budget without losing your amounts:
Select Manage Budget, beside the period arrows, choose a different period (and for custom cycles, the repeat and start date), then Save changes.
Tap ••• in the top right, choose Budget settings, then adjust the period and tap Save.
Saving takes you back to the period containing today. This is the fix if your actuals look empty: switch to Monthly, or set the custom start date to the beginning of a period that has spending in it.
